Wonderful breakfast in historical cellar of the main building (castle). I stayed in separate building; the room was spacious but not necessarily well-furnished. Bathroom had been renovated and it was beautiful, very spacious to include walk-in shower!
Room was tidy but not clean; there were food crumps on carpet and debris on floor, and dusty. Bring your own pillow; the pillows are the large, oversized square pillows that are so big they are under your shoulders; they are horrible down feathers and I asked for another pillow my second night--and it was much worse, it was also huge oversized square that was so hard you could not sleep. Location is not great if you're touring; unless you're staying at the castle for an event, stay in Kalkar or Xanten.

Breakfast was excellent, especially the dinning room. Freshly renovated bathrooms. Room size most impressive.
Rooms and appointments were a little worn.

We absolutely loved our stay at this luxurious 4-star hotel. The grounds were stunning and beautifully landscaped, providing a peaceful and serene atmosphere. The breakfast room was a real highlight, with its authentic and charming ambiance. The beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The hotel's location was also perfect, conveniently situated near the motorway and close to the Netherlands border. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring the nearby towns of Kalkar and Xanten, with their fascinating Roman museum and stunning Dom.
We highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and luxurious stay.

Excellent service, lovely atmosphere of old castle, actually the atmosphere during breakfast was the best I have ever experienced in the hotel, and I travel on weekly basis. Big room in old style, nice bathroom, big comfortable bed. Being there was like an adventure, very positive!!!

sleeping in a castle is a pretty nice idea. the hotel is very clean, staff friendly and in the morning you have your table reservation for breakfast, which offers a wide range, next to a knight. wonderful experience. Nearby are some beautifully cute old towns that are worth seeing
wifi in the rooms had to be paid, but you could get it in the main hall for free

Breakfast is served in a beautiful vaulted-ceiling room and the hotel offers a mix of historic structure and contemporary design. the hotel grounds offer a perfect space for family events or gatherings, with a private landscape and water views. the hotel's location is also convenient for exploration of nearby towns, museums, and archaeological parks.
The rooms are not well sound-proofed and noise from the corridors and above can be quite distracting. the wifi signal is weak, with inconsistent availability in certain areas.

Excellent accommodation, super bathrooms, nice quiet location, good breakfast. Room was more of a suite.
I couldn't find my way in on arrival and there was a curious lack of atmosphere. The 'barbican' in which our rooms were located wasn't a mediaeval gatehouse but turned out to be the converted 18th century stables and wasn't in the castle at all which we only really went into for breakfast. Well appointed but not quite what I had imagined a castle hotel to be.

Beautiful grounds and medieval-style breakfast
During our city trip, we stumbled upon a hotel with stunning grounds and a unique medieval-style breakfast. We were delighted to find that the rooms were spacious and well-maintained, with lovely artwork throughout the public spaces. the hotel’s location was perfect for exploring nearby Roman settlements and museums. One of our favorite aspects was the generous grounds and water views, creating a private and peaceful atmosphere.
Despite the hotel’s charm, we were disappointed by the thin walls which led to some disturbance from other guests. Further, we had trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi with some devices, making it difficult to stay connected.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel! The medieval-style cellar where breakfast is served is a unique experience. The picturesque grounds create a peaceful atmosphere and there are charming sitting areas to unwind. The location is convenient, with easy transportation access and close to various events in the area.
Nothing to mention.
